SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team dropped its fourth straight game on Saturday with a 65-57 loss to Alaska in the Otter Invitational at The Kelp Bed.
The Pioneers trailed by no more than six points in the first half, and finished the half with the same deficit. Alaska took a 29-23 lead into halftime.
Through 20 minutes of action, the Pioneers were limited to only nine field goals and a 33.3 shooting percentage from the floor.
Cal State East Bay trailed in the second half until the 14:23 mark when
Chris James made a 3-pointer to give the Pioneers a 36-35 advantage.
At the 6:53 mark of the second half, James made another 3-pointer to give CSUEB a 48-46 lead. However, the Nanooks responded with 11 straight points and a 57-48 lead with 1:27 remaining in regulation. While the Pioneers climbed back to trail by four points with less than a minute left, Alaska finished the game with a 65-57 victory.
- James scored a season-high 17 points, going 6-for-13 from the floor along with a pair of free throws.
- Dimitrios Klonaras picked up his second double-double in as many weeks, as he scored 10 points and had 11 rebounds.
- Defensively, James had three steals and Grady Lewis had a pair of blocks.

Before conference play, the Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, November 23 with a 4 p.m. tipoff from Conlan Center in San Rafael with a matchup at Dominican (Calif.). Cal State East Bay has won the last two games against the Penguins.
