TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team dropped its Saturday matchup against Point Loma, 68-62. Despite the loss, two Pioneers were named to the All-Tournament Team for the Stanislaus State Crossover Classic, including
Dimitrios Klonaras and
Grady Lewis.
A very even first half throughout was played, as there were four lead changes and three ties. At the 12:04 mark of the first half, Klonaras made a jump shot to give Cal State East Bay a 16-15 lead. From the jumper, the Pioneers led for the rest of the first half. They led by as many as five points, but ultimately took a 30-28 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Cal State East Bay did not trail until the 16:21 mark when Luke Haupt hit a 3-pointer to give the Sea Lions a 38-35 lead. PLNU continued to build a lead, which became as large as nine points. But with 1:53 left in the second half, CSUEB's deficit was cut to one point, 58-57 when
Tim Andreolli made a pair of free throws.
Unfortunately for the Pioneers, the one point deficit was as close as they would be down the stretch, as the Sea Lions closed out the game with a 68-62 win on Saturday.
- Klonaras finished with a double-double including 21 points and 12 rebounds. He went 8-for-12 from the floor and made five free throws. Defensively, he had one block and one steal.
- Also scoring in double figures for Cal State East Bay was Lewis with 15 points.
- Klonaras and Garrett Pascoe had three assists each.
- As a team, the Pioneers went 24-for-47 from the floor on Saturday and outrebounded the Sea Lions, 35-26.
- Kaden Anderson, named Tournament MVP, scored 24 points and had a team-high nine rebounds for PLNU.
