SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The first of two meets in the Slug Shootout took place Friday on the campus of UC Santa Cruz. Among eight teams (seven four-year institutions), the Cal State East Bay women's swimming team finished in second place. Throughout the meet, there were several top finishing Pioneers in their respective events as well as personal records achieved.
Emilie Giannini had a pair of personal records set. In the 200 yard freestyle, she placed first and reached her personal best time of one minute, 57.12 seconds. Giannini also had a personal best in the 500 yard freestyle of 5:17.23, where she placed second.
Below are some of the additional notable performances for the Pioneers on Friday.
- Miya French placed first in the 1,000 yard freestyle with season-best time of 10:56.57
- Placing first in the 50 yard freestyle for a second straight meet was Brooklyn Dressel with a finish of 23.95 seconds. Dressel also won the 100 yard freestyle in 52.01 seconds.
- Kylie Beaudet won the 400 yard individual medley in 4:34.14.
- The 200 yard medley relay team of Chloe Beebout, Tori Padilla, Dressel and Delaney Carlson won their respective relay event in 1:48.41.
- In the 400 yard freestyle relay, the Pioneer team of Dressel, Jacqueline Feurtado, Giannini and Carlson won the event.
The second meet of the Slug Shootout takes place Saturday at 10 a.m. from the campus of UC Santa Cruz.
