HAYWARD, Calif. – The final home match of the 2022 season for the Cal State East Bay men's soccer team took place at Pioneer Stadium on Sunday. While the Pioneers came up short, falling 2-1 to No. 7 Cal State LA, seven seniors were honored before the match.
Honored for their time and contributions in the ceremony were
Marco Antonio Campos,
Michael Francisco,
Josh Gaeckle,
Peter Hawken,
Kelekolio Mateo Jr.,
Daniil Menshikov and
Bradley Moorhouse.
- The Golden Eagles struck first in the 20th minute on Oliver Diaz's fifth goal of the season. James Raptis assisted on the goal.
- CSULA took a 2-0 lead in the 60th minute on Carl Solli's second goal of the season. Bryan Ortega had the assist.
- Late in the match, with less than five minutes remaining, a free kick was awarded to the Pioneers. Menshikov took the free kick and shot directly into the net, to cut into the lead as Cal State East Bay trailed 2-1, and the match would finish with the score.
- Menshikov's goal was his second of the season.
- On Senior Day, Mateo Jr. made his season debut in net and had six saves.
- In their final home match with the Pioneers, Hawken and Menshikov played a full 90 minutes in addition to Mateo Jr. in net.

"With it being Senior Day, I really appreciate what the seniors have done to move the culture of our program in the right direction. I'm also very proud of this team and the way they fought against the 7th-ranked team in the country. We'll prepare this week to end the season with a win on Thursday."

The 2022 season finale for the Pioneers takes place Thursday at Stanislaus State. Kickoff from Warrior Stadium is set for 2 p.m. Earlier this season, the Pioneers and Warriors met in a non-conference match, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
