East Bay Volleyball Claim Straight Set Victories Over Dominican and Holy Names in 2021 NorCal Kickoff

HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay volleyball team collected a pair of straight set victories over Dominican and Holy Names as they retruned to action today in 2021 NorCal Kickoff at the Conlan Center in San Rafael.
 
East Bay (2-1) began the afternoon strong with their 25-15,25-18, 25-23 straight set sweep over Dominican led by 7 kills and three aces from senior middle blocker Steena Hubbard. Freshman Peyton Griffin recorded a season-high 20 assists while adding five digs. Kara Green paced the Pioneers with eight kills and two digs and Breyan Ashley finished with a team high seven digs to go along with seven kills.
 
Sophomore Megan Crecelius notched 12 assists, second most on the team while Mia Jordan and Alexandria Gloria both chipped in five kills each in the victory.
 
CSUEB carried the momentum of their first victory of the season and rallied past Holy Names to 25-23, 25-13, 26-24 in straight sets. Sophomore Megan Crecelius notched a career-best 28 assists while adding four digs and three kills. Junior transfer Breyan Ashley led the Pioneers with 12 kills and tied for the team lead with eight digs and two aces. Kara Green turned in her second outstanding performance of the day tying for the team lead with eight digs and two aced while tallying nine kills.
 
Mia Jordan finished with eight kills and three digs while the Chloe Ortega and Taylor Miche bout compiled over five digs apiece.
 
The Pioneers will return home to Pioneer Gymnasium as they wrap play in the 2021 NorCal Kickoff with a Saturday Showdown against Fresno Pacific. The game will begin at 5:30 p.m., just after the Sunbird take on Chico State in a neutral meeting inside Pioneer Gym at 2:00 p.m.
