Pioneers Close Non-Conference Play With Road Defeat at Stan State

TURLOCK, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team couldn't duplicate its recent offensive output on Saturday, dropping a non-conference road match at Stanislaus State, 2-0.

CSUEB (3-2-1) had a 12-9 advantage in shot attempts, and was aggressive near the box leading to a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

However, Stan State (3-3) struck first with a goal from Ilena Rivera in the 38th minute and never relinquished the lead. Rivera added her second score of the night in the 76th minute to make it 2-0.

Seniors Riley Spitzer and Lauren Inman each recorded two shots with one apiece on target, while junior goalkeeper Jordan Smith tallied two saves.

Cal State East Bay returns to action on Friday, Oct. 1, as the Pioneers begin California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play against Cal State Dominguez Hills at 7 p.m.
