HAYWARD, Calif. — Senior
Tami Kwong knocked through a goal during the second overtime period to lift the Cal State East Bay women's soccer team to a home victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills, 3-2, in both team's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener on Friday night at Pioneer Stadium.
Kwong's third goal of the season came in the 102nd minute off a double assist from senior
Riley Spitzer and freshman
Jenna Villanueva, as the senior's shot from straight on and 20-yards out finished off a thrilling back-and-forth contest.
CSUEB (4-2-1) is now unbeaten in its last two CCAA openers, and has won three straight contests against Cal State Dominguez Hills (3-4, 0-1). Head coach
Robin Hart also remains undefeated against the Toros since taking over the Pioneer program in 2018.
Freshman
Lexie Randolph scored the first goal of the day for East Bay, dropping in a high-arching shot off an assist from Villanueva, while fellow freshman
Kylie Newman broke a 1-1 tie in the 20th minute when she scored off assists from Spitzer and sophomore
Majae De Leon.
Spitzer and Villanueva finished with two assists apiece, while junior goalkeeper
Jordan Smith tallied six saves.
Cal State East Bay resumes conference play at home on Sunday, Oct. 3, as they play host to Cal State Monterey Bay beginning at 2 p.m.
