FRESNO, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team put forth another impressive performance on Thursday evening, earning a road victory over Fresno Pacific, 2-1, at Ramirez Field.
CSUEB (2-1-1) is now unbeaten in its last three contests, outscoring opponents 5-1 during that span. In addition, it was the Pioneers' third-straight victory against Fresno Pacific (0-4).
With the score tied at one apiece in the second half, sophomore
Danya Gonzalez knocked through an unassisted game-winning goal in the 61st minute. It was the first-career goal for the midfielder from Tracy.
East Bay was able to strike first on Thursday behind junior
Kelsey Pena's goal off an assist from junior defender
Jill Nelsen. It was Pena's first goal in a Pioneer uniform and Nelsen's first assist of the season and second of her career.
Senior
Riley Spitzer finished with a team-high four shots, including two on target, while junior goalkeeper
Jordan Smith tallied two saves.
CSUEB out shot Fresno Pacific 16-12, and had a dominant advantage in shots on goal (10-3).
The Pioneers resume this week's two-match road trip on Saturday, Sept. 18, as East Bay takes on UC Merced beginning at 5 p.m.
