Box Score MERCED — The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team put forth its biggest offensive performance of the season on Saturday, earning a road victory over UC Merced, 4-1.

Senior forwards Riley Spitzer and Tami Kwong each scored a goal in the first half, while sophomore Majae De Leon scored the first two career goals of her Pioneer career to extend the lead.

CSUEB (3-1-1) is now unbeaten in its last five matches and has outscored its opponents 9-2 over that span.

It didn't take long for Spitzer to get going, as the Roseville native scored her first goal of the season in the 11th minute off an assist from sophomore Lexie Randolph, putting the Pioneers ahead early 1-0.

With the score tied, Kwong connected on her second goal of the season off a pass from freshman Kylie Newman in the 23rd minute, as East Bay went back in front, 2-1.

De Leon closed the first half with an unassisted goal in the 44th minute to make it 3-1, and the Elk Grove native tacked on her second score of the season in the 80th minute to extend the Pioneers' lead to 4-1.

Junior goalkeeper Jordan Smith finished with two saves, and CSUEB out shot UC Merced 12-8.

Cal State East Bay returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 25, as the Pioneers travel to take on Stanislaus State in a non-conference match beginning at 7 p.m.
