HAYWARD, Calif. —
The Cal State East Bay volleyball team returns home to begin conference play this weekend, as the Pioneers play host to rivals San Francisco State on Thursday, Sept. 16, beginning at 7 p.m., and Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m.

Both matches will be streamed live on CCAA Network, and live stats will be available.

Cal State East Bay (5-3) leads the all-time series 11-10 against San Francisco State (7-0), as the Pioneers have won seven of the last eight meetings between Bay Area rivals. CSUEB is 11-9 all-time against Cal State Monterey Bay (6-2), and has won eight of the last nine against the Otters.

CSUEB (5-3) went 2-2 during last weekend's Hawai'i Challenge in Honolulu, earning a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Montana State Billings to begin the weekend (15-25, 25-18, 25-18, 23-25, 15-10). The Pioneers followed it up with a 3-1 win over Saint Martins the next day (25-20, 25-17, 22-25, 23-25, 25-19).  

Several Pioneers set new career bests in the opening match against MSUB, including junior Breyan Ashley's second double-double of the season finishing with a team high 16 kills to go along with 14 digs. Sophomore Mia Jordan turned in a career best 12 kills, which was second on the team.

Sophomore libero Chloe Ortega paced CSUEB with a career -high 17 digs, while fellow freshman Peyton Griffin erupted with a career high 33 assists to go with seven digs and three kills.

In Saturday's win over Saint Martins, Griffin tallied her first-career double-double with career-best 38 assists and 11 digs. Jordan added a season high 17 kills on .412 hitting percentage along with two blocks. In addition, freshman Alexandria Gloria turned in seven kills, a team-high four aces and five digs.
