The award is voted on and selected by the Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) from the Conference's 12 member-institutions, focusing on a student-athlete's work in the classroom, in the community and in their respective sport.

"[She] exemplifies the character and virtues that we value of humility, hunger and smarts in our program," explained Cal State East Bay head women's basketball coach Shanele Stires. "From the moment that Madison stepped on the campus at Cal State East Bay in the fall of 2016, she has maintained a near-4.0 GPA, has competed in and helped us with a 2017 CCAA Tournament title, graduated with honors in the demanding degree field of computer engineering, and in Fall 2020 began her master's work at CSUEB in business analytics in an effort to work in Sport Technology. This combines Madison's love for analytics, facts and figures, and her passion for the game of basketball."

A native of Ridgecrest, Schiller has been the key component of the Pioneer women's basketball success both on and off the court. Schiller has appeared in over 70 games across her Pioneer career while garnering All-CCAA Second Team, CoSIDA Academic All-District, CCAA Winter All-Academic and was East Bay's Charnofski Award Winner during the 2019-20 season.

A member of the 2017 CCAA Tournament Championship team, Schiller has been an active volunteer at both the Hayward Promise Foodbank and the Alameda County Foodbank. She has also spent hours volunteering as basketball coach at Hayward Elementary School and Gateway Elementary and as a Summer Autistic Camp Counselor.
