HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team resumes conference play fresh off a break last weekend, as the Pioneers play host to CCAA foes Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday, Dec. 16, beginning at 7:30 p.m., before taking on No. 12-ranked Cal State San Bernardino in a contest played at Tobin Gym on the campus of Holy Names University on Saturday, Dec. 18, at 3 p.m.
Both contests will be streamed live on CCAA Network and live stats will be available.
East Bay has won four of its last five matchups against Cal State San Bernardino (8-1, 2-1), including a 70-68 CCAA Tournament quarterfinal win in their last meeting on March 3, 2020. The Pioneers are 2-17 all-time against Cal Poly Pomona.
CSUEB (3-6, 1-2) is coming off a split in two conference road games two weeks ago in Southern California, as the Pioneers won big over Cal State LA, 105-80, on Dec. 2, before dropping a close contest at No. 22-ranked Cal State San Marcos, 84-82, on Dec. 4.
East Bay had five players score in double figures in the win over Cal State LA, led by
Zack Perlstein's 18 points that included five 3-pointers. Senior forward
Zafir Williams scored 17 points with eight rebounds, junior
Kaito Williams added 14 points, senior forward
Josh Dhatt scored 11 points and freshman guard
DJ Sanders finished with 10 points.
Sanders led the way with a season-high 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting to go along with seven rebounds against San Marcos, while Williams scored 18 points with seven rebounds and senior forward
Justin Vigil made five 3-pointers and finished with seven rebounds.
Zafir Williams ranks seventh in the conference in scoring, averaging 15.8 points per game, and is eighth in rebounding with 6.9 per contest. The Long Beach native is also 11th in the CCAA in field-goal percentage (.470)
Kaito Williams is shooting 40 percent from 3-point range, which is eighth-best in the conference, while junior guard
Jesse Galloway is third in assists per game (4.8) and has the best assist-to-turnover ratio in the CCAA (4.8).
