Pioneering On: East Bay Holds Off Stan State, Advances to CCAA Semifinal

HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team found a way to win a defensive battle in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament First Round Match against Stanislaus State, with a 5-4 edge in penalty kicks, Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Stadium.

CSUEB (10-5-3) advances to its first-ever CCAA Semifinal, where it will take on Chico State on Friday, Nov. 12, beginning at 4 p.m. at Kellogg Stadium on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona.

In addition, it was the Pioneers' first victory over the Warriors since 2011.

Junior goalkeeper Jordan Smith turned away three Stanislaus State penalty kicks on the afternoon, including two during the penalty shootout, and finished with four saves overall. Sophomore Payton Heaney recorded a team-best three shots on target, while junior forward Kelsey Pena had two shots on goal.
