Moving On! Kwong's Golden Goal From Pena Lifts Pioneers to CCAA Tournament Final

POMONA, Calif. — Senior Tami Kwong scored the Golden Goal off an assist from junior Kelsey Pena, lifting the Cal State East Bay women's soccer team past Chico State in Friday evening's CCAA Tournament Semifinals, 1-0, at Kellogg Stadium.

CSUEB (10-5-4) will face No. 1-seeded Sonoma State in the CCAA Tournament Final on Sunday at 1 p.m. You can watch on the CCAA Network.

Less than two minutes into the second overtime period, Pena stole a Chico State pass and raced down the right side before kicking a perfectly placed crossed to Kwong, who liked it through the right side of the net with a right-footed shot.

It was the seventh goal of the season for Kwong, and conference-leading sixth game winner for the All-CCAA Second-Team selection. It was the third assist of the year for Pena, who earned All-CCAA Honorable Mention earlier on Friday.

East Bay outshot Chico State 18-10, with an emphatic 11-4 edge in shots on target. Junior goalkeeper Jordan Smith recorded three saves for her 11th shutout of the season.

It was only the PIoneers' second victory over the Wildcats since 1989, as the two teams met for the first time ever in postseason play.
