LOS ANGELES — The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team continued its momentum on the road Friday night, defeating Cal State LA, 2-0, and improving to 3-0 in CCAA play for the first time in program history.
CSUEB (6-2-1, 3-0) has already matched its 2019 win total when it finished 6-9-3, and earned its first-ever victory over Cal State LA. The Pioneers' all-time record of CCAA wins in a season is five, which was accomplished in 2011.
Junior
Kelsey Pena sparked East Bay's offense in the 59th minute, rebounding a shot from
Kylie Newman and heading it through from the right post.
Pena continued the wizardry in the second half, setting up a
Riley Spitzer header into the net early in the 63rd minute. It was Spitzer's second goal of the season, and the second-consecutive week Pena has recorded an assist.
Newman and fellow freshman
Lexie Randolph each had two shots on target, and East Bay's defensive back line was dominant in recording its second-straight shutout.
CSUEB returns to action this Sunday, Oct. 10, against Cal Poly Pomona at 11:30 a.m.
