Pioneers Fall Short on Road to Seawolves, Finish Weekend 2nd in CCAA Standings

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team dropped a road match at No. RV Sonoma State, 3-0, on Sunday at Seawolf Soccer Field.

CSUEB (9-4-3, 6-2-2) falls into second place in the CCAA standings, but was able to clinch a spot in the upcoming CCAA Championship tournament despite the loss. The only remaining match in the regular season is this Thursday, Nov. 4, against Stanisluas State on Senior Day beginning at 2 p.m.

The Pioneers currently have 20 points, and a win Thursday against Stan State would secure a top-two seed in the CCAA Championship Semifinals on Nov. 12.

First-place Sonoma State (21 points) and third-place SF State (20 points) face each other this Thursday, while fourth-place Chico State (19 points) also plays host to last-place Humboldt State. The conference's No. 3 and No. 4-seeds will host First-Round CCAA Tournament contests next Sunday, Nov. 7.

Junior Jill Nelsen, freshman Lexie Randolph and sophomore Payton Heaney each recorded a shot on target for East Bay, while junior goalkeeper Jordan Smith finished with six saves.
