HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team got an early goal from freshman
Jenna Villanueva and held on to earn a home victory over Cal State San Bernardino, 1-0, at Pioneer Stadium.
CSUEB (8-3-2, 5-1-1 CCAA) has now won two-straight matches and has only lost once in its last six contests. The Pioneers moved into sole possession of second place in the CCAA standings with 16 points, just ahead of SF State ( 14 points).
In addition, East Bay has won two of its last three meetings with Cal State San Bernardino (2-10-1, 0-6-1).
Villanueva recorded her second goal of the season in the first minute of Friday's match off an assist from senior
Riley Spitzer. It was the four assist of the season for Spitzer, who is tied with Villanueva for the team lead.
Junior goalkeeper
Jordan Smith recorded five saves to earn the victory in the net, while seniors
Lauren Inman and
Tami Kwong each tallied two shots on target.
Cal State East Bay returns to action at home on Sunday, Oct. 24, as the Pioneers play host to Cal State San Marcos beginning at 2 p.m.
