Cal State East Bay will honor its seniors from the 2019-20 academic year throughout this spring, this time baseball standouts Ransome Alexander, Kyle Basch, Brian Martinez, Ryan McSwain, Jake Ruiz, Ryan Thomasy and Matt Woinarowicz.

Ransome Alexander has been a four-year player for the Pioneer baseball team who was possibly having his best season on the diamond in 2020 before the season was cut short. He tossed a career best eight strikeouts in a 7-6 victory over Stanislaus State on February 23. Alexander has appeared in 51 games compiling a 4-4 record with 54 total strikeouts through 84.7 innings pitched.

A native of Fullerton, Calif., Alexander is majoring in Business Administration.

Kyle Basch came to Cal State East Bay after two seasons Santa Barbara CC. Basch has appeared in 20 games over his two seasons in Hayward tallying an 1-0 and a 3.43 career ERA, including an impressive 0.00 ERA in 2020 through five games. Basch has racked up 14 strikeouts through just 33.1 innings pitched.

A native of San Carlos, Calif., Basch is majoring in Business.

Brian Martinez enjoyed a stellar two years on the mound as a Pioneer after two seasons at nearby Ohlone College. Martinez has appeared in 19 games, making 17 starts and accumulating a 4.21 ERA with a 9-4 overall record. He has compiled 73 strikeouts through 110.2 innings pitched with six complete games, one career shutout and an All-CCAA Honorable Mention nod in 2019.

A native of Livermore, Calif., Martinez is majoring in Communications.

Ryan McSwain has paced the Pioneers with his bat as he as led the Pioneers in home runs in each of the past two seasons after coming to East Bay from Skyline College by way of Arkansas-Little Rock. Â McSwain has played in 67 games tallying a .285 batting average with a .455 slugging percentage to go along with 55 runs scored, 77 hits, seven home runs, 33 RBI and nine stolen bases. Defensively the outfielder has racked up 169 total chances, 165 putouts and .986 fielding percentage.

 A native of Redwood City, Calif., McSwain is majoring in Business Administration.

Jake Ruiz has spent the last two seasons at East Bay after transferring from nearby Chabot College. Ruiz has appeared and started in five games for the Pioneers in 2020. He compiled a .214 batting average, with two runs, three hits, an RBI and a .214 slugging percentage. Defensively Ruiz racked up 31 chances, 29 putouts and a .968 fielding percentage.

A native of of San Leandro, Calif., Ruiz is majoring in Communications.

Ryan Thomasy came to Cal State East Bay after two seasons at Lassen CC. Thomasy has appeared in 44 games, batting .262 with 19 runs, 27 hits, 10 RBI, .272 slugging percentage with five stolen bases. Defensively Thomasy has tallied 116 chances, 46 putouts, 63 assists and .956 fielding percentage.

A native of Redding, Calif., Thomasy is majoring in Construction Management.

Matt Woinarowicz joined the Pioneers after two seasons at Golden West College. He has appeared in 18 games with an 8.26 ERA through 18.2 innings tossed and 14 strikeouts.
