HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay softball team swept its doubleheader against Academy of Art on Tuesday afternoon behind stellar performances by senior pitchers
Abby Greer and
Bailee Glover.
Greer tossed her second-consecutive shutout in an 8-0, five-inning victory over the Knights to begin the day, while Glover followed by throwing a one-hitter and striking out a career-high seven batters in a 7-1 win to finish Tuesday's action.
CSUEB 8, AAU 0 (5 innings)
Senior
Emilie Portesi had two hits, two RBI and scored two runs as the Pioneers cruised to a Game-1 victory.
A native of Chino, Calif., Portesi's two-RBI double in the fifth inning gave CSUEB (3-8, 1-3 CCAA) a comfortable 5-0 lead, as Greer finished it off by allowing just two hits and striking out two.
Junior
Brooke Niewoehner added two hits with two runs scored, while junior
Jocelyn Baldon ended the contest with a two-RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth to make it 8-0.
CSUEB 7, AAU 1
Junior
Jeana Gonzales recorded two hits and two RBI, as the Pioneers gave Glover plenty of run support in a Game-2 victory.
Junior
Jackie Najera finished with two hits, including an RBI single in the sixth, while Niewoehner, sophomore
Madi Greco, redshirt freshman
Kayla Ching and freshman
Sydney Littles also had run-scoring hits.
Ching's RBI double to left got the Pioneers on the scoreboard in the second inning, and Littles' RBI double to center in the sixth scored Ching to put CSUEB ahead 6-1.
Cal State East Bay returns to action on the road this weekend, as the Pioneers take on Stanislaus State for four games on Feb. 14-15.
