Pioneer Women Close Road Trip with, 70-58 Loss to No.22 Tritons

LA JOLLA, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team had a tough finish in their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road trip with a, 70-58 loss to No. 22 UC San Diego, Saturday night in RIMAC Arena.
 
It was only the second loss for CSUEB in 12 games as they held their opponents to under 35 percent shooting from the field for the contest. The loss also moves the Pioneers to 11-4 overall on the season with a 7-2 mark in CCAA play.
 
The Pioneers had struggles of their own on the offensive end as they shot just 32.8 percent from the floor, their second-lowest of the season.
 
Despite their shooting woes, the Pioneers outscored the Tritons, 14-11 in the opening quarter and trailed UCSD by only two points at the half. UC San Diego was dominate inside the paint as they out rebounded East Bay 45-34 for the ball game and outscored the Pioneers, 28-22 inside the painted area.
 
Madison Schiller paced the Pioneers with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field, including 4-of-5 from the foul line. Schiller added a career-high three blocks to go along with three rebounds, two steals and an assist in 29 minutes of action.
 
Mina Tameilau turned in another solid performance during the weekend, leading the Pioneer reserves notching 12 points, on 3-of-6 shooting from the floor, while going 2-of-4 from beyond the three-point arc and a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
 
Kayley Hsiung and Kincso Kelemen both added two three-pointers apiece as they both scored six points each. Hsiung added two rebounds and a steal and Kelemen chipped in four rebounds and an assist. Faith Turner grabbed a team-best nine rebounds to go with six points and two steals.
 
The Pioneers will return home next week for their first installment of the "Battle of the Bays" rivalry matchup when they welcome in Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, January 11.
