TURLOCK, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team fell short in a hard-fought contest at Stanislaus State, 82-78, Saturday evening at Fitzpatrick Arena.
The two teams were tied 70-70 with 4:35 left to play, but CSUEB (11-9, 7-7 CCAA) couldn't quite close out the back-and-forth battle in the final minutes.
The narrow defeat snapped the Pioneers' two-game winning streak and spoiled their balanced offensive performance.
Junior forward
Zafir Williams led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds, senior guard
Trent Warren made four 3-pointers to finish with 15 points and five rebounds, senior forward
Ant Navarrete scored 15 points with six rebounds and junior guard
Nai Carlisle stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Cal State East Bay made seven 3-pointers in the first half alone, en route to taking a 45-38 lead into halftime. The momentum shifted in the second half, as Stanislaus State (13-6, 9-5) shot 56 percent over the game's final 20 minutes.
The Pioneers out-rebounded their opponent (34-30) for the third-straight game and forced the Warriors into 14 turnovers.
Cal State East Bay returns to action with a home game on Thursday, Jan. 30, as the Pioneers play host to Chico State beginning at 7:30 p.m.
