BELLINGHAM, WASH., -- The Cal State East Bay men's golf team opened the 2019-20 season this week at the annual Western Washington Invitational at Bellingham Golf & Country Club.

The Pioneers shot 306 and 294 in their first two rounds on Monday before wrapping the tournament up by shooting a 301 on Tuesday morning. East Bay finished the WWU Invitational tied for 12th after posting a 901 (+37) total for the week.

Senior
Joey Herrera led the way for the Pioneers as he notched a top-25 finish in the first tournament of the season. Herrera finished tied for 22nd after carding a 72 (E) and 73 (+1) on the par-72 course, then fired another 72 in the final round to finish at 271 (+1).

Freshman
Moses Greene turned in a pretty solid showing in his Pioneer debut. The Hayward native cracked out a top 30 finish as he placed tied for 29th, shooting a 219 (+3), just two strokes behind Herrera. After opening the tournament with 74 in the first round, Greene then turned in the Pioneers top performance of the the week shooting a 70 (-2) to close out Monday. Greene rounded out the tournament shooting a 75 to conclude his first time on the course as a Pioneer.

Freshman
Fraser Owenson compiled a solid performance as he earned a share of 76th place with a 232. He shot an 80 in the opening round before finishing with back-to-back 76's to round out the tournament.

Ryan Hong, like Owenson also kicked started his East Bay career by shooting an 80. Hong completed the week shooting a 235 for a 90th place finish after following his 80 with a 75 and another 80 in the second and third rounds.

Senior
Jake Malone finished just one spot behind Hong with a 236 for the week. Malone tallied a 81 in the first round before shooting a 77 and 78 in the final two rounds.

The Pioneers will look to build on this momentum as they travel to Howey in the Hills, Florida to take on some of the best teams in the country at the Golfweek Division II Fall Preview taking place October 5-8.
