HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team had its two-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday evening, falling short against Menlo College, 4-2, at Pioneer Stadium.
Cal State East Bay (2-3) was coming off a thrilling overtime victory over Holy Names on Sept. 19 and a dominant 3-0 win against Texas Permian Basin on Sept. 15, but found itself playing catchup throughout Saturday's contest after Menlo's Noa Kerr scored a goal in the game's opening minute.
The Pioneers showed plenty of resiliency, however, as
Ishmam Rahman's goal in the 14th minute knotted the score, 1-1.
Nick LaManna's score in the 62nd minute off
Joe Takada's free kick cut the deficit to 3-2, but it was the last time CSUEB found the back of the net.
Freshman goalkeeper
Sean O'Brien played all 90 minutes in the net and finished with eight saves in his second-career start.
Cal State East Bay returns to action next weekend, as the Pioneers begin California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play at home against UC San Diego on Sept. 27 and take on Cal State San Marcos on Sept. 29.
