NAMPA, IDAHO – The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team opened their two-game road trip in Idaho with a 1-0 loss to Central Washington Thursday afternoon at NNU Soccer Field.
With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 0-3 on the early portion of the season.
Despite the loss, the Pioneers played a solid game on both ends of the field. East Bay out-shot Central Washington 14-13, including five shots on goal to just three shots on goal from the Wildcats.
The defense from both teams were stout in the contest as they routinely thwarted each other offensive advances to the goal.
After a defensive struggle in the first half both teams headed to the locker room with a 0-0 tie at the intermission.
Shortly into the second half the Wildcats would break the scoreless tie on a goal from Olivia Sloan from Emily Russell in the 49th minute of action. This would prove to be the game-winning goal as neither team would add another score in the contest.
Riley Spitzer paced East Bay with four shots in the contest.
Jill Nelsen and
Chace Miguel each added two shots each with both of Miguel's shots coming on goal.
Annika Blom also tallied two shots in the match with one of her shots coming on goal.
