HAYWARD, Calif., -- Cal State East Bay assistant swim coach and former Pioneer All-American
Claire Beaty recently qualified for the 2020 Olympic Trials during the 2019 Santa Clara International Meet on June 8.

After placing third in the prelims at a time of 2:33.43, Beaty raced to a first place finish in the 200 breaststroke finals in a time of 2:31.75, which was 1.54 seconds faster that the Olympic qualifying time of 2:33.29. She is currently ranked 39th in the country.

Beaty placed first in an event filled with local Division I swimmers from local powerhouse programs such as Cal and Stanford. This was a high level meet with swimmers coming from across the country as well as the Canadian National Team.

Beaty earned her undergraduate degree from CSUEB in 2018. A four-year member of the swim team, Beaty is a five-time All-American and holds the program records in both breaststroke events. In 2017-18, she served as Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President, was NCAA DII national runner-up in the 200 Breast, won CSUEB's Female Athlete of the Year award, and was selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-American.Â
