HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's basketball 2018-19 season came to an end Friday afternoon, March 8 in Pioneer Gymnasium after a heartbreaking 88-71 defeat to Cal Poly Pomona in the semifinal round of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament.

As for Saturday's game, despite having five players notch double figures, East Bay did not shoot particularly well from the field finishing 35 percent shooting from the floor. The Pioneers shot 27 percent from the field in the first half of action and missed their first 11 three-point attempts as they completed the game 3-for-12 from three-point range. Â

The East Bay defense could only shake their heads in disbelief as the Broncos connected on 50 percent of their shots for the ballgame. Pomona was extremely hot in the opening half of action shooting 55 percent.

East Bay seniors
Savannah McGill (Lacey, Wash.) and
Elayshia Woolridge (Oakland, Calif.) turned in impressive performances in their final games in front of the Pioneers faithful. McGill garnered her 13th double double of the season with a team-best 21 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. She went 8-for-15 from the field with two steals in 35 minutes while going a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line. Woolridge tallied 11 points on 2-for-4 shooting from beyond the arc with a team-high three assists and five rebounds.

The Pioneer bench was very effective in the contest outscoring the Bronco reserves 35-10 for the outing.
Regina Sankey (San Jose, Calif.) led the way with 13 points, five rebounds and a game-high five steals.
Madison Schiller (Ridgecrest, Calif.) was awarded with the the 2018-19 CCAA Women's Basketball Championship Scholar Award. Schiller finished the game with 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Freshman
Delia Moore (Merced, Calif.) compiled 10 points, two rebounds, two steals, two assists and two big and-1 buckets.

Cal State East Bay had a strong showing inside the painted area scoring 36 paints point with 45 rebounds to just 28 points in the paint and 33 rebounds for Cal Poly Pomona. The Pioneers also notched 19 second-chance points on 21 offensive rebounds.

The Pioneers had their consecutive streak of seasons over .500 as they finished the season with an overall record of 14-16 including a 10-12 in league play capped off by a huge 72-62 upset over the third seeded Humboldt State in the quarterfinals of the CCAA Tourney.
