Pioneer Softball Falls in Both Ends of Day 2 of Tournament of Champions

TURLOCK, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay softball team fell in both ends of their contest on Day 2 of the Tournament of Champions on Saturday afternoon, March 30 at Pedretti Softball Complex.

East Bay was shutout in both outings as they fell to Academy of Art 5-0 and Northwest Nazarene 8-0 to move to 9-24 overall on the season.

In the opening game of the afternoon, the Pioneers were able to string together plenty of hits but were unable to convert any into runs. Sophomore Desiree Jimmy (Los Angeles, Calif.) was perfect from the plate as she compiled a season best three hits on the afternoon.

Sarah Fukushima (Sacramento, Calif.) was the only other Pioneer to notch a multi-hit outing as she finished with two hits through three at bats. Meghan Araneta (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and Courtney Leyba (Huntington Beach, Calif.) each added one hit each for CSUEB.

Bailee Glover (L, 1-8) (Reno, Nev.) got the start in the circle for the Pioneers and tossed just over three innings and allowed four earned runs. Taylor Lara (La Puente, Calif.) saw a little over three of action as well and added one strikeout with only three hits given up.

In the final game of the afternoon, East Bay struggled to get their offense going as they only registered four hits as a team.

Sophomore Jackie Najera (Santa Ana, Calif.) tallied her fifth multi-hit performance of the season after pacing the Pioneers with two hits on the afternoon.

Sarah Fukushima and Hailey Davis (Albany, Ore.) both contributed one hit each for East Bay.

Junior Abby Greer (L., 6-11) (Beaverton, Ore.) had another solid outing on the diamond for the Pioneers nearly going the distance and logging three strikeouts and giving up only two earned runs.

The Pioneers will conclude the 2019 Tournament of Champions with a game against Western Washington. First pitch is schedule for 10:00 a.m.
