LIVERMORE, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay men's golf team continued its impressive run of play to open the Spring schedule with a runner-up finish this week at the NDNU Argonaut Invitational, hosted at Poppy Ridge Golf Course.
The par-72 course was playing difficult, but the Pioneers turned in a consistent performance, posting team scores of 300 (+12), 298 (+10), and 301 (+13) for a 54-hole total of 899 (+35). The only squad that beat them in the 15-team field was Western Washington, the No. 6 ranked team in the national coaches poll.
Junior
Joey Herrera led the way for East Bay, finished just one stroke behind the individual champion to earn a share of second place. After a pair of 74's pn Monday, Herrera was one of just two golfers in the field under par on Tuesday, firing a 71 (-1) to finish the tournament with a total of 219 (+3).
Seniors
Will Barnett (+10) and
Greg Smith (+11) also posted top-20 finishes This is the third top-three team finish for the Pioneers in 2018-19, and the second straight.Â
