SAN FRANCISCO -- The Cal State East Bay men's golf team opened its 2019 Spring season with a strong showing to finish fourth out of 14 teams the Bay Area Invitational, hosted by Academy of Art at the par-72 TPC Harding Park.
The Pioneers shot 296 (+8) as a team in Tuesday's final round, finishing to 54-hole event with a total score of 880 (+16). The course played difficult for everyone this morning, except No. 3 ranked Western Washington, which shot six under par in the final round to leapfrog the top three teams and take the title.Â
CSUEB nonetheless placed ahead of three squads ranked in the top 50 in the nation according to Golfstat, including No. 19 Dixie State and conference rival UC San Diego.
Joey Herrera shot even par on Tuesday to notch a top-10 individual finish at 217 (+1) for the week. Senior
Will Barnett was just one stroke behind him, earning a share of 11th place. Sonoma State's Devin Gregg fired a 67 in the final round to snag individual medalist honors.
Next week, the Pioneer head south to compete in UCSD's annual SoCal Intercollegiate in Santee, Calif. Below are CSUEB's final individual scores of the Bay Area Invite.
