MONMOUTH, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team concluded the Western Oregon Conference Classic weekend with a tough 65-49 loss to the host team the Western Oregon Wolves on Saturday afternoon, November 9 in WOU PE Building.
Â
Similar to the Pioneers in their Friday match against Concordia (Ore.), the Wolves avenged last season's 51-47 lost to CSUEB. East Bay begins the season with a 1-1 record for the second consecutive season.Â
Â
It was a rough afternoon offensively for the Pioneers as they only converted on 30.4% shooting from the field. East Bay connected on 7-for-27 (25.9%) from beyond the arc. The CSUEB defense was stout again in this contest as they held the Wolves to just 35.3%. The Pioneers were especially tight defensively on the perimeter holding Western Oregon to just 18.2% accuracy from beyond the arc. East Bay also racked up 23 turnovers that accounted for 19 points for the Wolves.
Â
Western Oregon kick started the contest on a 9-0 run and never looked back. In fact, the Wolves never trailed in the ball game and went on to lead by as many as 21 points midway through the fourth quarter.
Â
The Wolves out rebounded the Pioneers 43-34 in the game and also dominated the painted area with 26 paint points to just 16 points in the paint from East Bay.
Â
Coming off their previous game where they scored at least 16 points in every quarter, East Bay failed to notch at least 16 points in any quarter on Saturday. Also this was the first contest of the season in which the Pioneers did not have a double figure scorer.
Â
But the East Bay bench once again provided a spark for the squad. For the second consecutive game the Pioneers leading scorer has come off the bench.
Â
Sophomore guard
Delia Moore led East Bay with nine points after sinking a trio of three-pointers. Moore added four rebounds, three assists and a steal in 26 minutes of action.
Kincso Kelemen also turned in a solid performance in 21 minutes off the bench contributing eight points, three assists, two rebounds and a steal.
Â
Madison Schiller finished with seven points to lead all CSUEB starters. Schiller added two rebounds, two steals and an assists on 3 for 6 shooting for the game.

Â
Freshman

Â
East Bay will return to the court when they take part in the Stanislaus State Warrior Classic next weekend with games against Notre De Namur and Holy Names.
