Pioneers Earn Big Road Win at Saint Martin's, 89-83

LACEY, Wash. — It's going to be a very happy Thanksgiving in Hayward.

The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team pulled out a big road win on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Saint Martin's 89-83 in a pre-holiday matchup at Marcus Pavilion.

CSUEB (5-2, 1-1 CCAA) has won four of its five non-conference games this season, and is now 12-4 in non-league contests since head coach Bryan Rooney took over the program in 2017-18.

Junior forward Zafir Williams scored a team-high 21 points with 13 rebounds and three assists, junior guard Nai Carlisle finished with 19 points, senior Ant Navarrete added 12 points with nine rebounds and senior Trent Warren scored 11 points with three rebounds and three assists.

After trailing by two at halftime, the Pioneers began the second half with an 11-0 run highlighted by sophomore Jesse Galloway's 3-pointer, to pull ahead 46-37.

Galloway sank another three to push Cal State East Bay's lead to 10 with just over 16 minutes remaining, and sophomore John Duff's jumper made it 59-46 with 13:26 to go.

Saint Martin's cut the deficit to two with 1:12 left in the game, but Warren's third 3-pointer of the day made it 82-77 with 55 seconds to play.

Cal State East Bay returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 30, when it plays host to Fresno Pacific on "International Night" at Pioneer Gym beginning at 7:30 p.m.
