HAYWARD, Calif., -- After a few weeks out of the pool, the Cal State East Bay Swim team will return to action in southern California this week by competing in the three-day Pepperdine Winter Invite mat ELAC Swin Stadium.
Â
The 13-team midseason meet will feature several of the schools against whom the Pioneers will race in February at Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference (PCSC) Championships. In addition to CSUEB, the field features: UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, CSU Bakersfield, California Baptist, Cal Poly, San Diego, Loyola Marymount, UC Santa Cruz, Alaska Fairbanks, Azusa Pacific, Arizona Christian and host Pepperdine.
Â
The meet will be a prelims and finals structure with prelims starting at 9 a.m. each day and finals at 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m.
Â
For the Pioneers, who are currently ranked No. 24 in the CSCAA Division II Poll, this will be a good barometer to gauge where they stack up against the competition in their conference. The midseason meet is often where swimmers turn in their fastest times of the year before championships. As such, there's a chance East Bay may see a few records fall over the next three days. In addition, the Pioneers will look to post some NCAA cuts with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the national championship meet in March.
