Men's Soccer Hangs Tough in Loss to No. 4 Cal State LA, 1-0

HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team hung tough for most of Sunday afternoon, but it wasn't quite enough in a narrow loss to No. 4-ranked Cal State LA, 1-0, at Pioneer Stadium.

On a blustery day on in the East Bay, the Pioneers were tied with one of the top teams in the nation until the Eagles found the back of the net on a corner kick in the 71st minute.

Freshman defender Kenji Nystrom recorded a team-high two shots on goal, while sophomore goalkeeper Juan Diego Escalante tallied nine saves.

Cal State East Bay (2-12, 0-8 CCAA) resumes conference play next weekend with road contests at Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino.
