HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team had Wednesday afternoon's contest slip away in the second half, as the Pioneers dropped a decision to Cal State Monterey Bay, 4-1, at Pioneers Stadium.
After playing to a scoreless tie in the opening 45 minutes, Cal State Monterey Bay (6-1-1, 1-1-1 CCAA) broke through with Matthew Kirk's goal in the 49
th minute off an assist from Walmer Martinez.

Zack Mason scored his second goal of the season off an assist from sophomore
Jacob Castro in the 79
th minute, cutting the Pioneers' deficit to 3-1. Castro finished with a team-high three shots, including two on target. Freshman goalkeeper
Sean O'Brien recorded four saves.
Cal State East Bay (2-6, 0-3) returns to the pitch on Friday, Oct. 4, for a home contest against Sonoma State beginning at 4:30 p.m.
