ARCATA, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team came out hot following its bye week, earning a road victory over Humboldt State, 2-1, Friday afternoon at College Creek Field.
With the win, CSUEB (3-5-3, 2-2-1 CCAA) has now gone unbeaten in five of its last seven contests.
Junior
Jordan Lemieux put the Pioneers ahead for good in the first half, knocking in a header off an assist from fellow junior
Lauren McDougal in the 14th minute. It was the first-career goal in a Pioneer uniform for the defender from Bothell, Wash.
McDougal added an insurance goal for Cal State East Bay in the second half, recording her fifth goal of the season. The Sacramento, Calif., native found the back of the net off a cross from senior forward
Eliana Mendoza in the 50th minute, extending the Pioneers' lead early in the second half, 2-0.
McDougal had a team-high four shots — with two on target — while junior midfielder
Riley Spitzer tallied an assist and was on target with all three of her shot attempts.
Freshman goalkeeper
Jordan Smith finished with five saves for her third-career victory in the net.
CSUEB finished with a 9-6 edge in shots on goal and recorded four corner kicks compared to just one of Humboldt State (2-7-2, 1-5).
The Pioneers return to action on Sunday, Oct. 20, when they play at Bay Bridge rival SF State beginning at 11:30 a.m.
