Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay volleyball team continued its recent surge on Saturday, defeating Sonoma State 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 24-26, 25-16) in a home contest at Pioneer Gymnasium.

CSUEB has now won two-consecutive matches after earning a home win over SF State on Oct. 5.

The Pioneers (3-12, 2-5 CCAA) took the first two sets to open up Saturday's match, earning close victories in both. After suffering a narrow loss in the third set, Cal State East Bay took control from the start of the fourth before cruising to the victory.

"It's great to build on our momentum and keep pushing forward in the season," said sophomore libero Sarah Stevelinck. "A big part of it was our serving and our defense. We really worked on our serving this week to make sure we were hitting the key areas to get (Sonoma State) out of system. We also hammered down on our defense to keep the rallies going and keep the ball alive."

Junior Kelly Jing-min Markham, freshman Jasmyne Love and freshman Samantha Zimmerman tied for the team-high of nine kills apiece, freshman Kara Green had 21 digs and freshman Eliza Cannon finished with 33 assists. Tate Battistini had a team-high 17 kills for Sonoma State (12-5, 4-3).

Cal State East Bay returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 15, when the Pioneers head across the bay to face SF State beginning at 7 p.m.
