CHICO, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay volleyball team gave a great effort in pushing Tuesday evening's match to five sets, but dropped a hard-fought contest at Chico State, 2-3 (16-25, 25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 13-15), in an instant classic at Acker Gym.
The Pioneers rallied after falling short in the first set to win the next two and take a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set. CSUEB couldn't close it out, however, as Chico State (8-5, 4-1 CCAA) responded to take the next two sets and earn the win.
Freshman
Kara Green led Cal State East Bay with 11 kills, 12 digs and three aces, junior
Kelly Jing-min Markham finished with 10 kills and six blocks, while freshman
Jasmyne Love added nine kills and four blocks. The Pioneers had an 11-3 edge in blocks as a team.
Cal State East Bay (1-12, 0-5) returns to action at home on Saturday, Oct. 5, when it plays host to San Francisco State beginning at 7 p.m.
