Last week, the Pioneers were ranked No. 24 in the first Division II National Coaches Poll of the New Year. The squad recently returned from its week-long Winter Break training trip in San Diego, which included a four-team dual meet at UC San Diego. East Bay narrowly defeated conference foe Loyola Marymount, but fell to UCSD and CSU Bakersfield. Dealing with difficult weather, East Bay did not post its best times at that meet and will be looking to bounce back with a strong effort Saturday against the Cougars.

The will be the first time the Pioneers have raced in a dual against APU since 2017, when CSUEB topped the Cougars 125-75 at Pioneer Pool. Azusa Pacific finished fourth at last season's Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference (PCSC) Championships, one spot behind East Bay. They will likely be one of CSUEB's top competitors for the conference crown this year, along with No. 18 ranked Fresno Pacific.
