POMONA, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's basketball dropped a tough California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road matchup, 68-56 to Cal Poly Pomona Thursday night, January 10 inside Kellogg Gym.

For the Pioneers, it was just their second loss in conference action as they move to 7-2 in league play with a 12-3 overall record on the season. The loss also snapped a four-game win streak for CSUEB who now have now went on four game win streaks thrice this season.

It was a tale of two halves for East Bay who enter the intermission with a 35-33 lead after shooting 48.1% from the field, including 44.4% from three-point range. Majority of the damage was done by senior point guard
Juwan Anderson (Oakland, Calif.) for scored 14 of his team-high 18 points in the first half. Anderson went 5-for-7 in the opening half capped off by a 3-for-4 mark from beyond the three-point arc. He finished the game with 18 points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal in 36 minutes of action.

In the second, the Pioneers went cold from the field. East Bay shot a season-low 27.7% (6-for-22) after the halftime break while being outscored 35-21 by the home team Broncos. Cal Poly Pomona improved their second half shooting to the tune of 50% (11-for-22) compared to 40% shooting in the first half. CPP also went 50% (4-for-8) from three-point land in the second half.

Senior
Evan Wardlow (Lake View Terrance, Calif.), reigning CSUEB Player of the Week, turned in another solid performance with 12 points and a career best five assists to lead the Pioneers. Wardlow added four rebounds and a steal on a team-high 37 minutes on the floor. He has now scored in double figures in seven consecutive contests.

Cal Poly Pomona dominated Cal State East Bay is many areas of the game. The Broncos claimed the battles inside the painted area after outrebounding the Pioneers 37-27 for the game. It was just the third time all season CSUEB has lost the rebounding battle and the first time this season being outrebounded by 10 or more boards. Cal Poly also outscored East Bay 30-14 in paint points.

The Broncos acquired 24 points off 16 Pioneer turnovers and the Pomona bench held a 17-8 advantage over the East Bay reserves. Cal Poly also notched 12 second chance points and eight more points from fast break opportunities.

Sophomore
Nai Carlisle (Went Lafayette, Ind.) returned to the Pioneer lineup after missing a game and finished with eight points, two assists and two rebounds in 25 minutes.
Patrick Marr (Clayton, Calif.) added six points and two rebounds.
Ant Navarrete (San Leandro, Calif.) lead the Pioneers with five rebounds to go along with his four points.

Cal State East Bay will conclude their road trip on Saturday afternoon, January 12 with a matchup against a good Cal State Bernardino team who have won five straight CCAA games. The game will be held in Coussoulis Arena at 3:00 p.m.
