HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team concluded their non-conference schedule with a, 2-1 victory over Holy Names on Sunday afternoon, September 30 at Pioneer Stadium.

With the win East Bay improves to 3-5-1 on the season with a 3-3 mark in game played at Pioneer Stadium. CSUEB finishes the non-conference season with a 2-3 record.

The Pioneers and Hawks traded momentum in the first half as neither team fully took control of the game and entered the intermission with the score locked at 0-0.

In the second half, the Pioneers started the get things clicking as senior
Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.) headed in East Bay's first goal after receiving a well placed pass through the defense from freshman
Michael Francisco (Hayward, Calif.) to claim a 1-0 lead. Ayala is tops on the squad with five goals.

Michael Francisco wouldn't be done as minutes after assisting on Ayala's goal, Francisco rebounded his own shot attempt and scored to the back right of the net to put the Pioneers ahead 2-0.

Holy Names would negate Cal State East Bay's shutout big with a goal in the 83rd minute by Prince Bere as the game ended, 2-1 in favor of the East Bay.

The visiting Hawks outshot the Pioneers, 14-9 with eight shots coming on goal. CSUEB capitalized on both of their shots on goal with two goals.

Jonathan Ayala paced the Pioneers with four shots, one shot on goal and one goal scored.
Michael Francisco compiled three total shots with one shot on goal, a goal scored and one assist.

Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Nev.) and freshman
Jacob Castro (San Jose, Calif.) both tallied one shot each.

Senior goalkeeper
Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) collected seven saves while only allowing one goal through 90 minutes of action.
