Pioneer Men's Soccer Falls 8-1 on Road to No. 13 Golden Eagles

LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team was defeated, 8-1 as they opened their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road trip against No. 13 Cal State L.A. on Thursday night, October 4 at University Stadium.
 
With the loss, East Bay falls to 3-6-1 on the season with a 1-3-1 stamp in conference play.
 
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead at the intermission after a hat trick from Daniel Simonis and a pair of scores from Leonardo Nogueira. Teo Jukic and Hunter Hwang would score the final two goals for CSULA in the second half on action.
 
Pioneer senior captain Carter Magee (Belfast, Northern Ireland) notched his second score of the season as he knocked in a rebound off a shot from fellow senior Jared Johnson (Los Altos, Calif.). Magee now has two goals and four points of five shots this season.
 
East Bay was out shot by host Cal State L.A., 28 to 11, with 12 of the Golden Eagles shots coming on goal to just six shots on goal from the Pioneers.
 
Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Nev.) led Cal State East Bay with four shots with two of those shots coming on goal. Carter Magee compiled two shots with one shot on goal.
 
Ben Reiter (Pleasant Hill, Calif.), Jacob Castro (San Jose, Calif.), Marco Campos (Hayward, Calif.), Joe Takada (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Jared Johnson all attempted one shot each. Castro, Takada and Johnson all added one shot on goal.
 
Senior goalkeeper Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) tallied all 90 minutes in the box for East Bay and recorded three saves.
 
The Pioneers will continue their CCAA road trek with a contest against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday morning, October 6 at 11:30 a.m. at Toro Stadium.
