East Bay Softball Suffers Doubleheader Sweep to End Weekend Trip

IRVINE, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay softball team concluded their weekend Southern California road trip with a non-conference doubleheader defeat against the Concordia Eagles at Eagles Field on Sunday afternoon, April 15.
 
The Pioneers move to 17-34 on the season with a 6-9 mark in none California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) games.
 
In the opening game, CSUEB starting pitcher Abby Greer (L, 6-16) (Beaverton, Ore.) hurled her 15th complete game of the season to go along with her three strikeouts and two walks.
 
The East Bay offense was only able to garner one run on three hits during the ballgame. Concordia put together runs in the third, fourth and sixth inning to come away with the, 4-1 win.
 
Bailee Glover (Reno, Nev.) knocked in the Pioneers only run of the season with a RBI double to center field in the top of the sixth inning. Maddie Ramirez (Chino Hills, Calif.) added a hit and scored a run for CSUEB. Courtney Leyba (Huntington Beach, Calif.) completed the game with a single to center field in the fourth inning of action.
 
In the doubleheader finale, the Pioneers jumped out to an early, 2-0 lead headed into the fifth inning. The Eagles would do an excellent job of playing comeback with three runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings to claim a, 6-3 comeback victory.
 
Despite the loos, a trio of Pioneers notch multi-hit performances. Maddie Ramirez tallied two hits and a RBI. Sarah Fukushima (Sacramento, Calif.) compiled two hits and scored a run. Bailee Aguigui (Vacaville, Calif.) had an outstanding day with two hits and two RBI.
 
Courtney Leyba and Meghan Araneta (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) each scored one run apiece for Cal State East Bay.
 
Olivia McWhorter (L, 3-10) (Cypress, Calif.) recorded one strikeout without allowing any walks nor runs scored during her time in the circle. Bailee Glover fanned one batter of her own with five walk through 5.2 innings of action.
 
The Pioneers will conclude the 2018 regular season with a home series against the visiting Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes at Pioneer Softball Field on Friday and Saturday, April 20-21.
