HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay softball team opened their (California Collegiate Athletic Association) CCAA home series against Humboldt State with a doubleheader loss at Pioneer Softball Field.

The Pioneers moved to 9-19 on the season and 5-17 in conference action after Saturday afternoon's action in Hayward.

The Lumberjacks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening inning of action and tacked on three more runs in the second inning of play.
Bailee Aguigui (Vacaville, Calif.) and
Rachel Tadlock (Woodland, Calif.) both produced multi-hit performances for the Pioneers. Aguigui recorded an RBI and a stolen base with Tadlock doubled with an RBI as well.

Sarah Fukushima (Sacramento, Calif.) and
Jocelyn Baldon (Chino Hills, Calif.) clapped triples as East Bay rallied with three runs through the fifth and sixth inning.
Courtney Leyba (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and
Maddie Ramirez (Chino Hills, Calif.) recorded singles as Ramirez scored a run and stole a base to close the doubleheader opener.

Olivia McWhorter (Cypress, Calif.) (L, 2-5) got the start in the circle for the Pioneers and logged a strikeout and no walks and Junior
Taylor Lara (La Puente, Calif.) retired a batter through six innings of action.

The doubleheader finale featured a strong pitching performance from
Abby Greer (Beaverton, Ore.) (L, 3-9) as she tossed a complete game and compiled five punchouts for the Pioneers.

Sarah Fukushima turned in another multi-hit game and a RBI led through the first five innings of action. A Humboldt State three-run homer over the left center fence in the top of the sixth gave the Lumberjacks a, 3-1 lead over the Pioneers.

East Bay closed the sixth inning with a run as but ultimately fell 3-2 to close the afternoon.
Meghan Araneta (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) logged her first double of the season while
Jennifer Palmares (Elk Grove, Calif.) and
Maddie Ramirez added scored both runs for the Pioneers to close out the afternoon.
