LA JOLLA, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay softball team dropped their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road doubleheader Friday afternoon, March 9 against #25 UC San Diego at Triton Softball Field.
After the sweep the Pioneers moved to 9-16 on the season and 5-14 in conference action.
East Bay had trouble finding offense Friday afternoon as they only registered five hits in total during the doubleheader.
In the opening game
Bailee Glover (Reno, Nev.) logged the Pioneers only two hits including a double.
Courtney Leyba (Huntington Beach, Calif.) scored the lone run for East Bay as she stole home in the top of the seventh inning.
Sophomore pitcher
Olivia McWhorter (L, 2-3) (Cypress, Calif.) got the start for the Pioneers and tossed a complete game. McWhorter compiled one strikeout and did not walk any Triton batters.
In the doubleheader finale, the Pioneers were tied with the Tritons after the second inning of action. Sophomore
Abby Greer (L, 3-8) (Beaverton, Ore.) opening the game in the circle for East Bay and retired four UC San Diego batters through three innings.
Freshman
Taylor Lara (La Puente, Calif.) saw 1.1 innings of action as she finished with one strikeout and three walked batters.
Jennifer Palmares (Elk Grove, Calif.) led East Bay with a double in the top of the fifth inning.
Bailee Glover also compiled a hit for East Bay.
Desiree Jimmy (Los Angeles, Calif.) tallied a hit and scored the Pioneers only run of the game in the second inning.
Amanda Loya (Orangevale, Calif.) registered East Bay's lone RBI of the afternoon.
East Bay will wrap up their road series against UC San Diego with a single game Saturday morning with the opening pitch set for an 11:00 a.m. start.
