ARCATA, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team dropped a tough overtime road contest, 82-75 to Humboldt State Thursday night, February 1 in Lumberjack Arena.

With the loss the Pioneers move to 4-13 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action and 8-15 overall on the season. The Lumberjacks took the season series over CSUEB 1-0 this season.

The Pioneers battled back from shooting 37.9% (11-for-29) in the first half to go 15-for-28 (53.5%) after the intermission and outscore the Lumberjacks, 37-35 in the second half to force an overtime. CSUEB shot 5-for-8 from three-point range in the second half as well. But a 3-for-10 (30%) shooting effort in overtime including 1-for-5 (20%) from beyond the arc proved to be the deciding factor in overtime.

Despite the outcome of the game, several Pioneers turned in great performances led by
Druce Asah's (Tracy, Calif.) game high 22 points on 9-for-18 accuracy from the field. Asah went 3-for-6 from long distance to go along with three rebounds and an assist in 33 minutes of action.

Senior center
Kyle Frakes (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) notched his third double double in the last four games with 14 points and 12 rebounds on 7-for-10 shooting. Frakes has scored in double figures in six consecutive contests.

Drew Bender (Phoenix, Ariz.) compiled 11 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the floor with three rebounds and two rebounds in 34 minutes on the court.

For just the second time in 12 games the Pioneers were outrebounded, 43-40 by the Lumberjacks. But East Bay evened out the battled in the painted area outscoring Humboldt State, 36-34. CSUEB have strong outings from some of their reserves, however the Lumberjacks prevailed in the bench production, 24-16.

The Pioneers also struggled from the charity stripe going a combined 3-for-12 (25%) in the second half and overtime. East Bay came away with the advantage in second chance points, 7-6 over Humboldt State.

Freshman
Keshawn Bruner (Sacramento, Calif.) led the East Bay bench with eight points and five rebounds on 25 minutes on the floor to lead all Pioneer reserves.

Junior point guard
Juwan Anderson (Oakland, Calif.) led all players with eight assists to add with his six points, five rebounds in 36 minutes of action. Senior forward
Jelani Mitchell (Pasadena, Calif.) picked up his fifth start of the season scoring six points, two assists and a rebound while knocking down both of the three-point attempts.

The Pioneers will complete the final leg of their road trip with a visit to Chico State on Saturday night, February 3 in Art Acker Gymnasium with a 7:30 p.m. tip off.
