HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team opened California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play with a tough 68-58 loss to Cal State San Marcos on Saturday afternoon, November 24 in Pioneer Gymnasium.

With the loss East Bay moves to 3-3 on the season with a 0-1 mark in the conference action.

The Pioneers jumped out to an early 14-6 lead after the opening quarter of play but struggled shooting from the field as they were outscored 62-44 through the final three quarters including a 25-8 second quarter that favored the visiting Cougars.

The East Bay reserves showed up well as they finished with a 27-14 advantage over San Marcos. Junior
Regina Sankey (San Jose, Calif.) paced the Pioneers with 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the floor including 2-for-4 from three-point range. Sankey collected a season-best four steal to go along with four rebounds and an assist through 15 minutes.

Sophomore
Madison Schiller (Ridgecrest, Calif.) compiled 12 points on 5-for-8 accuracy from the field while also going a perfect 2-for-2 from the foul line. Schiller tied a team-high with five rebounds while accounting for two steals, an assist and a block.

The Pioneer defense was able to score 21 points off 23 forced Cougar turnovers. San Marcos would control the painted area as they outscored East Bay 28-24 in paint points while also outrebounding Cal State East Bay 40-32.

Junior
Kayley Hsiung (Bakersfield, Calif.) also notched double figures with 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting from the field while leading the Pioneers with three three-point field goals made in 27 minutes of action. Hsiung finished with four rebounds, a team-high two assists, and a steal.

Senior guard
Elayshia Woolridge (Oakland, Calif.) tallied nine points while going 6-for-8 from the charity stripe to lead the team.

The Pioneers shot 35.6% (21-for-59) from the field for the game including 35.0% (7-for-20) from beyond the three-point arc for the game.

Savannah McGill (Lacey, Wash.) and
Jojuan Carrington (Oakland, Calif.) each put in four point each for CSUEB. McGill corralled a team-best five rebounds while Carrington chipped in with four rebounds and two blocks.

The Pioneers will continue CCAA play with back-to-back home meetings against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday evening, November 29 and Cal State L.A. on Saturday afternoon, December 1. Both games will be held in Pioneer Gymnasium.
