Rough Shooting Haunts Pioneers in 61-26 Loss to Cavaliers

HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team concluded their Veteran's Day Classic weekend with a tough 61-26 loss to the visiting Concordia University (Ore.) Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon, November 10 in Pioneer Gymnasium.
 
It was a rough afternoon offensively for the Pioneers as they only converted on 21.4% (9-for-42) shooting from the field including only connecting on 2-for-15 (13.3%) from beyond the arc. East Bay also racked up 32 turnovers that turned into 27 points for the Cavaliers.
 
Defensively the Pioneers played fairly well. They held the hot shooting Cavaliers to just 37.7% (23-for-61) shooting from the floor. But Concordia did knock down 40% (8-for-20) of their shots from three-point distance.
 
Junior forward Morgan Greene (Phoenix, Ariz.) paced the Pioneers with eight points and eight rebounds on 4-for-7 shooting from the field. She added two assists and a steal in 25 minutes of action.
 
Concordia narrowly edged out Cal State East Bay in the battle on the boards, 39-38. But the Cavaliers did however outscore the Pioneers 22-14 in points inside the painted area. The Pioneers got 15 points from their reserve players.
 
Madison Schiller (Ridgecrest, Calif.) contributed four points, two rebounds and two steals in 18 minutes off the bench. Courtenay Brown (Oakland, Calif.) added four points, one rebound and one steal in 27 reserve minutes.
 
The Pioneers got big rebounding games from front court players Savannah McGill (Lacey, Wash.) and Faith Turner (Auburn, Wash.). McGill grabbed nine rebounds to go along with three points and one assist and Turner corralled five rebounds with three points and one steal in 11 minutes of action.
 
Jojuan Carrington (Oakland, Calif.) chipped in two points, one rebound, one assist and one steal while Delia Moore (Merced, Calif.) added two points, a team high three steals, three rebounds and an assist.
 
With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 1-1 on the season.
 
East Bay will return to action when next weekend when they travel to Anchorage, Alaska to participate in the Saewolf Hoops Classic Friday and Saturday, November 16-17 at Alaska Airlines Center. The Pioneers will play Alaska Anchorage on Friday night and wrap up the weekend with a game against Alaska on Saturday afternoon.
