ROHNERT PARK, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team's late second half surge was not enough to propel them to victory in their 3-2 road loss to Sonoma State on Thursday afternoon, October 25 at Seawolf Soccer Field.

With the loss, East Bay moves to 3-12-1 on the season with a 1-9-1 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.

The Pioneers fell down early in the contest as the Seawolves scored goals in the 27th and 32nd minutes of the match to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

Sonoma State would add to their lead midway through the second half with a goal in the 66th minute of action as they took a 3-0 lead over the East Bay.
Â
But the Pioneers would continue to get themselves back in the ball game as they scored two goals in the final 17 minutes of the match.

First in the 73rd minute, freshman
Marco Campos (Hayward, Calif.) put in a shot to the top left corner of the goal after rebounding the ball off a SSU defender. For Campos, it was his Pioneer goal of his career.

Then senior captain
Carter Magee (Belfast, Northern Ireland) scored on a penalty kick to the left corner in the 89th minute of the game. For Magee, it was his third goal of the season which is second on the club.

Despite the outcome, the Pioneers notched season highs in both shots with 22 and shots on goal with 13.

Senior
Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Nev.) paced East Bay with five shots and three shots on goal. Fellow senior
Carter Magee also chipped in three shots on goal with four shots in total.
Michael Francisco (Hayward, Calif.) finished with three shot attempts with two shots on goal.
Luis Salazar (San Lorenzo, Calif.) added two shots and one shot on goal while
Chris Sumano (Redwood City, Calif.) also compiled two shots.

Tin Nguyen (San Diego, Calif.),
Joe Takada (Honolulu, Calif.) and
Victor Aguila (Reedwood City, Calif.) all chipped in one shot each with Takada's only shot coming on goal.

Junior
Carlos Moreno (Patterson, Calif.) registered his first start of the season in goal and tallied a season-high eight saves.

The Pioneers will conclude their 2018 regular season Saturday afternoon, October 27 with a 2:00 p.m. match against the Humboldt State Lumberjacks at College Creek Field.
