ROHNERT PARK, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's soccer squad opened their final California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road trip of the season with a tough 1-0 loss to the No. 24 ranked Sonoma State at Seawolf Soccer Field on Thursday afternoon, October 25.

With the loss, the Pioneers move to 7-8-2 on the season with a 2-7-2 mark in conference action. It was Head Coach
Robin Hart's first match against her former team. Hart spent two seasons as the top assistant at Sonoma State. During her tenure in Rohnert Park, the Seawolves posted a 26-6-6 record, captured the 2015 CCAA regular season championship, and made back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances.

This game was a defensive battle throughout the entire match as no goals were scored through the first 85 minutes of game action.

But in the 86th minutes the Seawolves scored the game-winning goal on a shot by Sam Layman to claim a 1-0 victory.

Sonoma State held the shot advantage over East Bay, 16-8 with nine shots coming on goal for the Seawolves and three shots on goal by the Pioneers.

Kayla Morales (San Jose, Calif.) all attempted one shot each with Lemieux, Buitrago and Miguel shots coming on goal.

Briana Vasquez-Ortiz (Long Beach, Calif.) tied a career best mark of eight saves through 90 minutes of action.

The Pioneers will wrap up their 2018 regular season with a Saturday morning match against Humboldt State at College Creek Field on October 27 at 11:30 a.m.
