HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's soccer program dropped a tough double overtime match to the visiting Cal Poly Pomona Broncos to wrap up their 2018 home schedule on Sunday morning, October 21 at Pioneer Stadium.

It was Senior Day for CSUEB as seniors:
Aulani Fernandez,
Miranda Gonzalez and
Savannah Schultz were honored with a ceremony prior to the start of the game.

With the loss, the Pioneers move to 7-7-2 on the season with a 2-6-2 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAA) action.

Cal State East Bay got on the board early as seniors
Miranda Gonzalez (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and
Savannah Schultz (Folsom, Calif.) connected on a goal in the 12th minute of action. Gonzalez placed an excellent pass to Schultz just outside the box and Schultz finished it off with a score to the back right side of the goal.

For Schultz, it was her second goal of the season and her second goal in CCAA play. For Gonzalez, it was her second assist of the year.

The Pioneers would take a 1-0 lead into the intermission, but it was the visiting Broncos who would control the second half and overtime periods.

Cal Poly Pomona was in possession of the ball for most of the second half as they their first goal of the afternoon in the 80th minute of action.
Â
It would take two overtimes but the Broncos would seal the game with a game-winning goal in with 2:46 left to go to capture their first conference victory of the season.

The Broncos held the shot advantage over the Pioneers, 13-9 with six shots on goal for CPP to just four shots on goal from CSUEB.

Abby Buitrago (San Jose, Calif.) paced the Pioneers with three shots, while
Eliana Mendoza (Tracy, Calif.) and
Savannah Schultz added two shots apiece. All there had one shot on goal each.

Juniors
Jamie McPherson (San Leandro, Calif.) and
Liz Hernandez (Whittier, Calif.) both attempted one shot each.

Freshman goalkeeper
Briana Vasquez-Ortiz (Long Beach, Calif.) recorded all 90 minutes in the box and logged four saves.
Â
The Pioneers will wrap up the 2018 regular season with road games against Sonoma State on Thursday afternoon, October 25 and Saturday morning, October 27.
